In September 15 2011, unprecedented power blackouts struck korea causing enormous inconvenience to the banks, businesses, home, factory and schools. Why did those accident happened ?
There are some reason. First reason is excessive electricity consumption. Ongoing unseasonable heat wave, Thursday's electricity consumption overdo Thursday's supply capacity. Because of that, power supply system could not endure demand. As a result, blackout happened.
Second reason is the mistake of the demand forecast. peak electricity consumption hit 58.75 million kilowatts on the previous day and KEPCO forecasted Thursday's peak electricity consumption similar to previous day. But Thursday's peak electricity consumption hit 67.26 million kilowatts and a number of power plants were already being repaired. As a result, blackout happened.
In order to prevent incident, KEPCO should be a thorough analysis about power demand.
